Title: Research Scientist / Sr. Research Scientist
Location : Delaware Research and Technology Center, Newark, DE
Supervisor : Applied Mathematics Group Manager
Mission : Working in close collaboration with end-users in Air Liquide's Operations, develop decision support tools for industrial gas supply chain through the application of optimization theory and techniques.
Responsibilities :
Drive innovation in research projects focused on development of decision support tools for supply chain management, including raw material sourcing, production and distribution scheduling and optimization:
Define the optimization problem and specify requirements and investigate options (models & optimization algorithms) for solving the problem. Identify, evaluate and select industrial or academic partners if necessary.
Develop solutions for specified problem, including coding and detailed commenting of newly added functionalities.
Implement new functionalities in optimization solvers, including translation of specifications into software code.
Support testing of solvers, including definition of test cases, analysis of feasibility and performance tests results.
Ensure the transfer of the prototype to the operations entities and provide support to the industrialization phase.
Take full ownership of optimization solver and train team members on details of resolution methodologies implemented, thus ensuring sustainability of solution for Air Liquide.
Challenge Optimization methods used at Air Liquide.
Work within a multi-disciplinary and international team including internal and external partners.
Maintain international cooperation with the R&D; counterparts globally.
Contribute by writing technical research papers and patents to capture know-how and promote Air Liquide research. Establish reputation for quality and timeliness of technical communications.
Transfer know-how. Manage technical communication between R&D;, outside partners and Air Liquide partners. Manage technology transfer to R&D;, partners and other Air Liquide entities.
Requirements :
Candidates should have a degree (MS or PhD) in Chemical Engineering, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. A strong background in applied mathematics is required, including knowledge and experience in such areas as statistics, data analytics including forecasting and data mining techniques, numerical modeling, and economics. Knowledge of optimization methods & algorithms including linear programming, stochastic and robust optimization and dynamic programming is required. Experience in optimization software development and testing is desired. Experience in the architecture design and implementation of innovative optimization solutions is a plus.
Candidate should be able to guide internal customers to define their need, translate it into functional design specifications, and develop a solution in cooperation with our industrial IT group. The candidate should be a self-starter able to work independently, be adaptable to changing conditions and priorities, and handle multiple tasks. Excellent communication skills with a strong team attitude are also highly desirable.
