This role will be located at a High School in Newark, DE Daily Hours:
This role is Monday through Friday and daily hours are at least 5 hours a day with a 30-minute unpaid lunch.
The school hours are from 7:
05 am to 2:
10 pm (not guaranteed to be the employee's daily working hours).
The candidate must be available to work the school's hours daily and be reliable in attendance.
Bilingual candidates are preferred but not required Requirements:
MUST have experience working with children/students (educational classroom experience preferred) Demonstrate excellent behavior management skills and possess experience using those skills with high-risk, disruptive students Possess the ability to work cooperatively with staff in all job categories, including guidance counselors, teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, etc.
Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a member of a team to address a variety of interrelated academic/emotional/social student issues Possess excellent oral and written communications skills; and Possess the ability to balance empathy and high expectations for appropriate academic and behavioral success.
All staff must provide evidence of criminal background checks, child protection registry checks, and current PPD test results as required by the State of Delaware.
Student Support Staff are individuals who assist building staff in monitoring students in various capacities.
To establish rapport with students and district staff, Student Support Services Staff will:
Utilize time-out and hall monitoring to build rapport and confidence level Observe in the classroom to identify designated students' strengths, weaknesses, and help the student to understand how the classroom dynamics can help to serve their learning needs Attend meetings with school staff in order to maximize effectiveness of behavioral strategies in conjunction with learning abilities Hall Monitor To maintain clear hallways and orderly change of classes, Student Support Staff will:
Ensure students report to assigned area Work to positively redirect students to their assigned area Check for students out of assigned area (i.
e bathrooms, incorrect classroom) and provide intervention as needed Escort students to appropriate areas Assist with lunch duty and bus duty Time-out Monitor By working directly with students with the primary purpose of improving behavior and attitude, Student Support Staff will develop a one-to-one atmosphere and disciplined environment which will exemplify that appropriate conduct results in success.
Staff will:
Identify behaviors needing improvement Work with students and school staff to develop and implement pro-active behaviors and attitudes Work with Multi-disciplinary team to implement effective in-school suspension classroom strategies and assist in maintaining school climate behaviors conducive to learning Point cards will be completed and utilized to offer a participatory behavioral management approach between student and Support Staff In school Suspension Monitor Learning the most effective course of action to help the student understand the importance of education and how to pro-actively react to triggers of frustration will provide a system of support to enable meeting of short term and long term goals as well as life goals.
Student Support Staff will:
Conduct sessions/groups regarding Student Code of Conduct and understanding code violations Utilize individual and small group counseling strategies to pro-actively address discipline issues Serve as a personal mentor and set a positive example worthy of emulation Work with district school staff to enhance parent, student, and family relations Use daily point cards to provide a baseline of behavior and identify areas of improvement Provide academic assistance to align with student's grade level or remedial level, as provided by the district school teachers Job Type:
